2024: Google Doctor – Intelligent Answers to Health Questions

Oct 11, 2024

1. The rise of Google Doctor

With the continuous advancement of technology, Google’s development in the field of health has become increasingly eye-catching. As an artificial intelligence-based medical tool, Google Doctor’s search popularity continues to rise. According to relevant data, the number of searches for Google Doctor has increased significantly since 2024.

The application scenarios of Google Doctor are also expanding. On the one hand, it performs well in diagnostic medical reasoning and dialogue. For example, AMIE, Google’s latest LLM large model in the medical field, is able to conduct rich doctor-patient dialogues, ask questions that help reduce uncertainty and improve diagnostic accuracy, while balancing other requirements for effective clinical communication. In a randomized, blinded crossover study, AMIE outperformed doctors in 24 of the 26 dialogue quality criteria, including politeness, explaining the condition and treatment, giving an impression of honesty, and expressing care and commitment.

On the other hand, Google’s collaborations in the medical field are also increasing. From January 1, 2021 to May 21, 2024, Google has reached more than 352 collaborations. At the HLTH Europe 2024 conference held in June this year, Google’s Chief Health Officer Karen DeSalvo shared Google’s latest layout – developing digital platforms, establishing partnerships with medical service providers, and promoting disease prevention. Among them, generative artificial intelligence (AI) models are a key part of this work.

In short, the rise of Google Doctor in the health field has provided people with more convenient and efficient medical services, and has also brought new opportunities and challenges to the development of the medical industry.

2. Advantages of Google Doctor

1. Accurate diagnostic capabilities

Google Doctor has demonstrated significant diagnostic advantages in respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. Studies have shown that conversational robots based on Google’s large language model are more accurate in diagnosing these diseases than qualified primary care physicians. For example, in all six medical specialties tested, the robot’s diagnostic accuracy was comparable to or exceeded that of human doctors. In terms of diagnostic accuracy for cardiovascular diseases, Google Doctor has even reached or exceeded the diagnostic level of human doctors. In terms of respiratory diseases, Google researchers have developed a conversational AI diagnostic system that can diagnose patients’ symptoms based on their conversations and medical records, providing patients with accurate diagnostic results.
